Really pleased with this toolcase. The build quality is excellent - sturdy metal construction with a clean, industrial look that feels both practical and stylish. It's the perfect size for organizing my essential tools without being bulky. Delivery was impressively quick too - arrived within 3 days of ordering, well-packaged and in perfect condition. Highly recommended if you want something reliable and well-made.
Amazing japanese tool box. A design classic.
Love it! The quality is insane. Thought it was expensive until I received the tool box and now I think it's cheap for how sturdy and stylish it is. Arrived quickly with no issues. Highly recommend.
Amazing tool box from Japan. I love the look of it, the quality, the feel. It's just a great item to have. It makes me happy every time I use it. I also bought similar one as a present to my friend and another one to my husband and they both love it. The colour is beautiful and bright. The mechanism works great after 2 years of use, so this must last me a long time.
The picture of this tool box on Amazon doesn't do justice to this. It is in fact more beautiful and good looking in real life than the pictures depict. The blue paint is deeper, slightly darker and glossy than in the picture. It is gorgeous. Like a luxury handbag of a tool box.
Very pleasingly made sturdy box with a nice tactile matt finish. Feet pressed into the base allow boxes to stack securely on the corresponding dimples in the lid. Nicely rolled and finished edges with a secure snap latch action. Great for tools and project items.
Built on Japanese Manufacturing Tradition
The wider Trusco story began in Osaka in 1959, when the business was founded as Nakayama Kiko Shokai - a machine tools wholesaler with a strong focus on trust, practical service and long-term thinking. From the beginning, the company built its reputation on clear principles, product availability and an organised approach to distribution.
Over the decades, Trusco continued to evolve from a traditional tools wholesaler into a modern industrial supply brand with deep expertise in product distribution, operations and workplace efficiency. The brand's core identity has remained rooted in practical tools for real working environments.
In the case of these steel tool boxes, manufacturing comes from Toyo Steel - a Japanese maker widely respected for refining the steel toolbox into something both useful and beautifully understated.

Your UK specialist shop for Japanese steel tool storage
truscotoolbox.co.uk is focused on a niche that deserves specialist attention - quality Japanese steel tool storage from brands trusted by makers, tradespeople, collectors and design-conscious buyers alike. The aim is simple: offer authentic Trusco and Toyo tool boxes with clear information, dependable selection and a focus on products that combine utility with lasting appeal.
For anyone used to ordinary plastic storage, the difference is immediate. Pressed steel offers a more permanent answer. It is stronger, more stable and made to cope with years of use in workshops, studios, sheds, garages and on the move. Better still, it develops character with age. Small dents, light scratches and signs of use add to the appeal rather than take away from it.
This is tool storage for people who value proper materials, efficient design and objects that earn their place over time.

Everything you need to know about Trusco and Toyo steel tool boxes
Trusco Toolbox is a specialist online shop focused on Japanese steel tool boxes and practical storage solutions. The range includes selected products from Trusco and Toyo - brands known for simple, durable designs and dependable everyday use.
In most cases, yes. Toyo Steel is the Japanese manufacturer behind the boxes, and the same designs are sold under different names including Toyo and Trusco. The main difference is usually the branding stamped into the steel rather than the underlying build quality.
Steel tool boxes are generally more durable, more stable and better suited to long-term use. While plastic storage can be useful, it often becomes brittle over time. Pressed steel offers a sturdier alternative that ages well and stands up better to regular handling.
The tool boxes offered through the site are made in Japan by Toyo Steel, a manufacturer widely recognised for its pressed steel storage designs and consistent build quality.
The difference comes down to materials, construction and design. These boxes are made from pressed steel with strong hinges, simple clasps and clean lines. They are designed to do one job very well - store tools and equipment securely without unnecessary parts or gimmicks.
No. Although they are practical enough for workshop and trade use, they are also popular with gardeners, artists, designers, hobbyists, cyclists, mechanics and anyone who wants better-made storage for everyday items.
They are suitable for hand tools, fixings, measuring tools, craft supplies, art materials, sewing equipment, stationery, bike tools, grooming kit, electrical accessories and many other everyday essentials. Their simple design makes them highly versatile.
Because they are made from steel, they have a more solid feel than plastic boxes, but they are still designed to be practical for daily use. The exact weight depends on the model and size.
Minor marks from normal use are usually cosmetic only. In fact, one of the appealing features of pressed steel tool boxes is that they tend to develop character over time. Small dents and scratches often add to the industrial look rather than reduce their usefulness.
Some models include trays, cantilever sections or internal layouts designed to help organise smaller items, while others offer a more open interior for larger tools and awkward shapes. This depends on the specific product.
Yes. Their clean, understated design makes them suitable not only for workshops and sheds, but also for home offices, studios, utility rooms and other interior spaces where practical storage is needed without visual clutter.
The Trusco story began in Osaka in 1959, when the company was founded as a machine tools wholesaler. Over time it expanded across Japan, building a strong reputation in industrial supply, storage, logistics and practical workplace products. Today the brand is associated with reliable, functional equipment designed for real working environments.
The steel tool boxes sold under the Trusco name are widely associated with Toyo Steel manufacturing. That means customers benefit from recognised Japanese production quality alongside the Trusco brand identity.
They combine durability, simplicity and thoughtful design in a way that feels timeless. Rather than relying on disposable materials or overcomplicated features, they focus on solid construction and everyday usefulness. That balance appeals to both practical buyers and people who appreciate well-made objects.
The site is for customers looking for authentic Japanese steel storage with a focus on quality and function. That includes professionals, hobbyists, collectors and anyone who prefers durable, well-designed storage over short-term alternatives.
